If you’re new around here, check out this post! I checked in at the end of December and since then I’ve made some progress on my list of 27 things. Or at the very least, I have a plan for some of them.
1. Start a blog. I’m so happy that people are actually reading. It makes this whole blogging thing way more fun when people chime in.
2. Run a 10k and three 5ks. Kansas City Corporate Challenge is coming up and I’ll definitely be doing the 5k with my co-workers. I’m thinking about running the half marathon in May, but we will see how Rock the Parkway Half Marathon goes first. Don’t want to get too ahead of myself. There have also been talks of me participating in the triathlon for KCCC. Uh, what?! I actually had to google what exactly a triathlon entailed.
3. Learn how to braid my hair. I’m contemplating doing a tutorial once my sister teaches me a few braids. If we could both find the time in our busy schedules, we would be set.
4. Make a point to keep in touch with my family out of state more often (call, text, Facebook, send letters, anything really…).
5. Complete a photo-a-day challenge (in it’s entirety). Check out my Instagram for all the pics.
6. Go skiing at Snow Creek in Weston, MO. I’m probably going to have a very small window for this to happen before Spring hits.
7. Start using reusable grocery bags. There is no excuse as to why I haven’t started doing this yet. Someone slap my wrist.
8. Volunteer my time. I thought about doing Girls on the Run, but I’m afraid with work and my own half marathon training schedule I wouldn’t be able to commit enough of my time. I’m on the Giving Committee at work and we are going to be teaming up with a local food kitchen, which I think will be an extremely rewarding way to give back.
9. Earn a raise (mama needs some new shoes!).
10. Read more. So far I’ve read: Revenge Wears Prada, The Husband’s Secret, Banished: Surviving My Years in the Westboro Baptist Church, Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiant and Gone Girl. Next up are Dark Places and Sharp Objects because Gillian Flynn is just that good.
11. Grow a plant. I had purchased a few succulents and a cactus to plant in my terrarium, but I wasn’t able to find the activated charcoal I needed to put it all together. Somehow I killed one succulent and the cactus and the third plant is on it’s last leaf. I finally tracked down some activated charcoal at Petsmart this weekend, whodathunk?
12. Go on a mini vacation/weekend trip. I traveled to Dallas and it only took 15 hours to get back home. It was fun, I promise. Read all about my adventures here.
13. Lose the last 10lbs my body is holding onto because I can’t stop eating cheese and bread. You can get my whole weight loss story here. The number on the scale has slowly been creeping in the right direction. I’m going to start incorporating an interval workout on my “cross” days for half marathon training. Supposedly these scorch fat. I’ve also been pondering the idea of doing additional fitness related posts on here. Would you be interested? If so, what would you like to see?
14. Have a movie marathon with my Dad, with classics like The Breakfast Club. My dad is a busy man. He’s been traveling a lot on the weekends for my little brothers hockey tournaments and of course when he is home my weekends are jam packed.
15. Start meditating once a week, even if it’s for 15 minutes (hummmmm). I would like to incorporate this into my work day somehow. I think it’s so important to take time for yourself and your thoughts and just chill.
16. Go to the drive-in movie. Summer, come out come out wherever you areeee.
17. Save more money.
18. Go to a concert at Grinders. See #16.
19. Run/walk/jog/elliptical my way through 1,000 miles. I’ve made it through 489 miles. Nearly halfway. The forecast this week doesn’t look half bad and I can’t wait to hit the pavement.
20. Attend a trampoline class at Sky Zone in Kansas City and drag all of my friends along. I’m in luck. Last week my little brother announced that he is going to celebrate his 8th birthday at Sky Zone and I had better be there.
21. Try a yoga class. Kansas City Bikram Yoga, why am I so intimidated by this?
22. Become CPR certified.
23. Update the pictures in frames around my apartment.
24. Get a skin cancer screening at the dermatologist.
25. Attend a First Fridays in downtown KC. I know First Fridays happen year-round, but it seems like they are few and far between during the winter months, or maybe there isn’t much promotion for the events that are going on? Just add this to the never-ending list of reason why Spring needs to hurry up.
26. Make at least three of the many, many projects I’ve pinned on Pinterest.
27.Write a letter to myself to read next year at this time.
I’ll be back for more before you know it. Happy Monday! (especially for all you lucky ducks who have the day off)

I am wanting to try yoga too! Although the Bikram kind of scares me a bit!

Bikram scares me too. Maybe I should start with just regular yoga. I’m really hoping to find some time to go at the beginning of next month!
You definitely need to do a half marathon!! Very cool experience! Run a few and you’ll have a marathon on that list too!
I’m signed up to run the Rock the Parkway half marathon in April. It will be my first one and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous. Marathons scare the bejesus out of me!
I’m running it as well!! We should definitely meet up at the race!
That sounds like a great idea!!
great list! I did a similar one (25 before 25) and it contributed to an amazing year!
Thanks so much, Sara! It’s given me a lot to work towards. I love reading lists that other people make too π I’m going to check yours out now!
Hey fellow Midwest Blogger π I loved your post on your weight loss and becoming a healthier version of yourself. I currently am working on shredding my college/stress pounds too. I got a trainer and have already lost 10 pounds. Reading your keys things that helped (i.e. MyFitnessPal) really encouraged me to stick it out, as those are all goals and guidelines I have set for myself too. I really love your blog and feel like we really relate in a lot of way! π
We share many of the same goals! Especially the growing a plant idea. I’ve been slowly adding small plants to my desk at the office, but I need to find the right pieces for my apartment to upgrade the feel of my decor. Feels like a proper adult thing to do at 26!

I love yoga! I’ve been to all kinds of classes, including Bikram, and I’d love to go with both of you to any type of class whenever you’re ready to try it! We also have free yoga at lululemon every Sunday morning at 11. Bring your own mat or borrow one of ours. It was really great meeting you both on Saturday!
I’m also running this one! It will be my second time for this race… it’s a great one, nice and flat for the most part. lululemon will also have a fun cheer station!
Woo! I’m glad there will be another friendly face π
It was great meeting you as well! Free yoga?! Count me in! I
live just a few minutes from the plaza
This is really fun & a great idea. I want to do this before my next birthday!

It’s a lot of fun to set goals and watch them happen! If you do, I would love to see what you put on your list π
This is such a great list. I am also working on reading more. Have you read “Me Before You” ? I finished it a couple of weeks ago and still think about the characters. It is amazing!
I haven’t yet! I will definitely look into it π Thanks for the tip, Emily!
