Saying goodbye to the 80 degree sunshine in Texas yesterday called for one thing (or 7, rather) and the neon sign of the Dunkin Donuts at the airport drew me in like a bug to a bright light in the summertime. Reality had sank in and one glass of milk, a chocolate frosted donut and six donut holes later, I had totally eaten my feelings. Go on, judge away.
Pete’s mom took us down to the Houston/Galveston Beach area for a long weekend right when I needed it the most and I couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunity to get away. The smell of humidity was thick and oddly refreshing the entire time we were there and I realized that the sooner spring shows up and breaths new life into me, the better.
We cruised the beach, got a taste of mardi gras at the parades and I got to catch up with one of my best friends from college, Sydney, and her husband!
Fresh beignets on the beach – does it get any better?
Say hello to my little friend, Baby Vuitton (a replacement for the one my sweet Nana bought me years ago). I could have basked in the pristine lighting of our hotel room all day long, but that would have been wrong on so many levels.
After a weekend of going non-stop, a glass of chardonnay paired with a sunset flight back into Kansas City was perfection. Getting to our cars to find out that one of them was completely dead….not so much. Life has a funny way of reminding you that some things are simply out of your control.
But on the other hand, some things are totally in your control….
I couldn’t wait to lay in my own bed, even though I hate the way it dips in the center and makes a terrible creaking noise when we lay down at night. I’m ready to get back to my Bar Method classes and half marathon training this evening and I was even more excited to get back to blogging after my brief, unintentional hiatus. But everything else (and by everything, I really mean that one thing that I probably shouldn’t come out and say) just left me feeling less than stellar.
I want to come back from vacation feeling invigorated, ready to get back to the grind that I love and in order to get there, change is necessary. It’s time to stop dragging my feet. Less talking, more doing.

I opened the 26 and Not Counting reader survey yesterday and the response thus far has been open, honest and oh so motivating! I appreciate each and every one of you for taking the time to give me some feedback and share what you’re working on right now. You guys are busy bees and reading about the things you’re working on adds fuel to my fire. You can take the survey here if you haven’t already done so!
Have a fabulous Tuesday!
Its funny how much I look forward to vacation and then immediately look forward to getting back into a routine… there’s something to be said for the structure of the everyday. But vacations are amazing too! I’m heading to Texas at the end of the month!
Agreed!! See you at GBS soon 🙂
I would never judge you for eating donuts…I’ve been known to kill two or three in one sitting. The key to a happy life is the little indulgences, which totally includes donuts. And you definitely deserved that trip! 80 degree weather sounds so amazing right now.
I love how you’re always so open and honest on your blog, and I can’t wait to take your survey 🙂

Basking in the warm sunshine sounds SO good to me right now! That is awesome you got to get away a bit and recharge. It will be warm here soon enough….just have to make it through a crappy few more weeks:)
I sure hope! I’m ready to dine al fresco ALL the time 🙂
I’m still jealous of that Mexican spread. Looks amazing! So glad you had such a refreshing weekend – that is the best!! xoxo

I’m still full from it 😉
Sounds like this was just the vacation that you needed! A long weekend away soaking up the sun — ahh, not much in life is better!! I’m glad you got to replace your baby Vuitton!
Yes, me too!! Can’t wait to “see” you on our hangout next week 🙂
I want to go somewhere and travel, travel!!!

A Hint of Life
What are you waiting for?! You deserve it! 😉
Sounds like you had a great trip! I lived in Texas from 3rd grade through high school and never once went down to that area. I desperately want to take a trip home this summer, so maybe I’ll hit up a few other cities.

No judgment here (on the donut indulgence)! I would probably do the same given the circumstances. But I must agree with Elle…no matter how wonderful vacation can be- There’s no place like home. Happy Wednesday 🙂
