Hard at work.

I feel like I just gave you guys an update on my list of 27 things before 27, but when I looked at my calendar I realized an entire month has passed. I need to alert the authorities, someone robbed me of September!

1. Start a blog – You’re reading, woo!

4. Make a point to keep in touch with my family out of state more often (call, text, Facebook, send letters, anything really…) – I feel like I’ve been doing a pretty good job of this, if I do say so myself.

5. Complete a photo-a-day challenge (in it’s entirety) – I participated in the month of August. If you missed out, check out my Instagram.

7. Start using reusable grocery bags – I haven’t started doing this yet. Shame on me! But I have started recycling plastics, like milk jugs, plastic water bottles, etc.

9. Earn a raise (mama needs some new shoes!) – I had my review at work in mid-September and guess who got a raise? This girl.

10. Read more – So far I’ve read: Revenge Wears Prada and Banished: A Memoir, Banished: Surviving My Years in the Westboro Baptist Church and The Husbands Secret. Next up on my list is The 4-Hour Work Week. I came across the book on a blog called The Well and I can’t wait to start reading. What are some of your favorite books? Leave a comment so I can add them to my list!

12. Go on a mini vacation/weekend trip – I am making a trip to Dallas in early December for my little brother’s hockey tournament. My grandparents live in San Antonio and my Aunt and Uncle live in Houston and they are going to come up so that we can all spend some time together. Road trip, here I come!

13. Lose the last 10lbs my body is holding onto because I can’t stop eating cheese and bread – Today is the official weigh-in for the Skinnyo challenge! Drum roll please….

Start
Starting weight: 145.1
BMI: 22.7
Goal
Weight: 140
BMI: 21.9
Finish
Weigh-in: 140.2
BMI: 22
I missed my goal by just .2lbs! I have a feeling that this had a little something to do with the fact that I celebrated three different birthdays this weekend and ate out nearly every meal. I’m hoping by the end of the week some of that, “I had too much fun this weekend bloat” will disappear and the number on the scale will reflect my goal weight. Next challenge: continue building more lean muscle so that I can rock my skinny jeans all winter long!

17. Save more money – (I won’t go into all of the boring details of my finances, but I’ve got a number in my head and I’m going for it!) – Still saving away. Still wishing I could binge shop.

19. Run/walk/jog/elliptical my way through 1,000 miles – I’m currently at 187 miles. I hope we have a mild fall so that I can keep logging extra miles outdoors after the gym in the evening!

Editor’s note: I’m adding a newish “thing” to my list: stretch more. I’m terrible about it. After I get through a tough workout the last thing I want to do is stretch. But I’ve noticed my muscles seem “stiff” lately and I’m pretty sure lack of stretching is the culprit.

I think it’s time to splurge for a new pair of tennies. Any suggestions?!

27. Write a letter to myself to read next year at this time – Written, signed and sealed!

Happy Monday!

  1. Helter Skelter, great book on the Charles Manson murders written by Vincent Bugliosi, Prosecuting Attorney/author and Curt Gentry co-author. But, warning…it is quite unnerving and at times scary to read. Wouldn’t advise reading right before bed. But, was definitely one of the best books I’ve ever read.

I also wanted to start using reusable grocery bags and I’ve succeeded… because I bought a set of Envirosax. They’re a little bit of an investment (I bought via Amazon) but they roll up into tiny little bundles that you can keep in your car or purse; now I even use them when I shop at the mall to cut down on bags. 🙂

Hi Aubrey, thanks so much for stopping by! I will definitely have to look into those. I try to put everything into one bag when I go places like the mall, but sometimes it’s easy to forget.
