An Ode To My First Job

I got the highly coveted Magic Bullet for Christmas, although I use the term highly coveted lightly because I’m well aware that it’s no Vitamix. But have you seen how many cups it comes with? I can take my smoothies just about anywhere and not have to do dishes for at least a week and a half. Not that I would do that, but I figure it may be a key selling point for some – your secret is safe with me.

Allow me to enlighten you with the history of my time in the smoothie making industry. Aside from babysitting and the one day stint I put in at a local Chinese restaurant at the age of thirteen (I’ll save that for another day, but trust that it’s a goodie) my first real job was making smoothies at the local Juice Stop. I spent 5 years slinging drinks for Topekans and whether I like it or not, those recipes are forever ingrained in my memory.

However, I’ve come to realize that sherbet, frozen yogurt and juices from concentrate might not be the best and most wholesome ingredients so I rounded up a few healthy smoothie recipes that still give off the vibe that you’re indulging in something special.

Blend your little heart out…

I just might let Pete skip the box of chocolates if he promises to whip me up this Valentine Smoothie from Cook Republic come February. Juuust kidding. We aren’t much for the traditional celebrations when it comes to the day of love, but that doesn’t mean he’s off the hook!

I’ll be keeping this antioxidant packed smoothie from Eat it Kansas City on hand to ward off any sickness that may come my way. There’s no better excuse to mix up something sweet, right?healthy smoothie recipe

Dianna created this creamy Nutella Banana Oat Smoothie over on Chard in Charge and I can’t think of a better substitute for my sweet tooth when temptation hits!

I also plan to add some summer sunshine in the dead of winter with this Strawberry Mango Smoothie from The Everygirl. Have any of you tried chia seeds? The texture freak in me isn’t so sure, but the health freak in me says, “get over it.”

It’s high time I get back to my roots and my smoothie making ways.

What are some of your favorite smoothie recipes to whip up? Any that sneak in extra greens (without added taste) get bonus points in my book!

try chia seeds! i like adding a spoonful to yogurt… wait until they kind of mix in otherwise its a weird crunch, but they soften & expand like little odd jelly balls (don’t know how else to describe it, rice pudding-like maybe?) annnyway, I think you would hardly notice in a thick smoothie and may even start tossing them in other things, like a salad
