How to style a bar cart

Hi guys! The lovely Katie of Twin Stripe Blog is taking over today so that I can enjoy my last day in Chicago! Enjoy 🙂
how to style a bar cart

Hi everyone! My name is Katie and I blog over at the lifestyle blog, Twin Stripe. Jess asked me to share a few bar cart styling tips with you today. I hope these tips are helpful as you style your own bar.

The day I walked into a large furniture showroom at High Point Market and met Roxy of Society Social was the day I fell in love with the bar cart. High Point Market is one of the largest furniture shows in the U.S. and it happens to be in my backyard. Roxy shared her love of design and entertaining with me and I was sold. Last March Chad and I finally decided to take the plunge and ordered the Worth bar cart in gold.

I love stocking my bar cart and styling it for different seasons or events. Here are my day-to-day bar cart essentials:
  • Liquor– Many bar cart guides will give you very specific recommendations, but I just stock my bar cart with what my husband and I like to drink. If we have guests coming over, I try to make a signature cocktail and have a variety of other drinks on hand.
  • Glassware – I believe you can never have too much glassware. I have two different sets of vintage glassware on my bar cart, rocks glasses and coupes.
  • Fun straws – Straws add color to any bar cart and are great for parties and stir sticks.
  • Fresh flowers – Adding a few fresh blooms to a bar cart can totally turn it around.
  • Candles – Like flowers, I love candles too. I always have one on the bar to fresh the space up if needed.
  • Mixers – I recommend keeping mixers in your house for a perfect cocktail. Currently, I have a White Whale old fashion mixer on the bar. To use, you just need to add one part White Whale and one part liquor. My favorite is Skinny Dipper – it’s a less sugary version of a margarita. Chad and I always have sparkling and tonic water in the fridge.
  • Cocktail napkins – Pretty napkins are essential to make sure no one makes too big of a mess of your home. A friend missed a napkin, be sure to grab one for her!

Styling can be difficult, but if you keep it simple, your bar cart will look like you hired a professional.
  • Give each item on your bar cart enough space. If you have too much on your cart, it will just end up looking cluttered.
  •  Place your glassware, accessories or liquor on a tray to keep it organized. I created the above tray with this tutorial from Society Social.
  • As I mentioned earlier, fresh flowers can take it to the next level.
  • You do not need to display every bottle of liquor you own. I put extras on the bottom or keep them in the pantry until they are needed.
  • Pick an item or two that you wouldn’t typically keep on the bar and style it into the décor.
  •  Once you style the entire bar, take one item away so it’s not cluttered.
