I thought I would preface this post by saying thank you for always being so incredibly supportive of me opening up to you in this space – it means a whole lot!
It’s always hard for me to switch gears from those deeply personal posts and get back to sharing things that might seem frivolous to some. I hope you know I love putting these posts together just as much as I love writing my heart out! Maybe this thought/feeling is an entire post for another day, we shall see.
As much as I love a good print, I tend to stick to a pretty neutral color palette during the week (and even more so come fall/winter). Mix and match neutrals make for effortless mornings!
I found myself in J. Crew earlier this week and could have done some serious damage. I don’t know the last time I walked in the store and thought, “I’ll take one of each, please!” I ended up grabbing a few pieces I know will get a ton of wear in the coming months.
First up, this sleeveless sweater with the cutest tie in the back (It runs slightly big and I ended up going with an extra small. The small didn’t look terrible and would have given a roomier look and feel). I personally don’t like the way they have it styled on the J. Crew site as it’s just not something I feel would look good on me. The picture I snapped below isn’t the best, but I thought I would include it so you could get a better feel for what it looked like without a shirt underneath!
This top was a no-brainer. With lace, peplum, and tie details, what’s not to love? I tried the regular on in store and it was too short for my long torso, so when I got home I ordered it in a tall (size 4). It would look great with a pair of cut-offs and white sneakers for the weekend or under a blazer paired with a chic pair of block heels for work!
And finally, I snagged a pair of boyfriend jeans. This is actually my first pair of J. Crew denim and I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable they are. I’m anxious to see if they hold up as well as my favorite pair from Madewell when it comes to keeping their shape, but the price was comparable and I love the wash! (The boyfriend fit tends to run big, so I ended up with a size 24.)
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is still going on through August 6 and after perusing the site again, I found a handful of new picks that didn’t make my previous round-up. I’ve heard really great things about Zella’s workout pants, and at $35 (with free shipping and free returns) you really can’t go wrong! While on the topic of leggings, I’ve also heard people rave about these Spanx faux leather leggings. I’m not quite sure I could pull them off though! I’ve clearly got a thing for ties right now, which explains my love for this sweater.
My self-control was no match for Old Navy’s new arrivals. This off-the-shoulder top, striped tee (I know, I know…another stripe), and a versatile pair of flats will get endless amounts of wear and won’t break the bank!
Have you guys seen this net shopping tote? I ordered it for Lollapalooza next week and after that, I plan to use it for quick grocery store trips and weekend jaunts around the city!

Hi!! I want to order the Zella workout pants, but the Nordstrom page says they’re $54. Where did you get the $35 price? That’ll be all the difference to get me to pull the trigger! Thanks Jess!
Hi Katie!! Shoot, they were part of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that JUST ended. I looked though and Nordstrom Rack has a ton of great options around that price point here: http://bit.ly/2usaHna. If you scroll to the bottom of the page there are several pairs that are super similar. You will have to let me know if you find anything you like!
Oh thank you so much for doing that! I’ll admit I’m not a huge online shopper so the anniversary sale went over my head 😫 I’ll head to a Nordstrom rack and check out those options so I can feel them and try them on, I’m an old lady millennial. Thanks for your help!
Oh course, anytime! Hey, there’s nothing wrong with that 🙂
