30 Days of Fitness and No Caffeine

You’re probably going to think I’m bat sh*t crazy after I tell you what I’m about embark on, and you would be mostly right.

I’ve decided that for the next 30 days I am going to give up pop, which means I’ll actually be giving up caffeine, considering I don’t drink coffee or energy drinks (I’m picky). I’m not a pop everyday type of gal, but I definitely have those days where a happy hour drink from Sonic is a lifesaver and I’m a huge fan of getting pop when we go out to eat (which has been happening a lot lately).

I’ve done a mini sugar detox before, but after reading up on the things I’ve been putting in my body lately, I was shocked to learn that while I wasn’t having donuts, I was still getting my sugar elsewhere (I’m looking at you, wheat bread). So, not a true sugar detox.

If that wasn’t enough of a challenge, I’m also going to practice 30 days of fitness. I’ve been the queen of excuses lately (hello, Indian summer heat) and I’ve hit the snooze button, when I should be running or heading to Bar Method, far more times than I care to admit. I love The Everygirl’s 30 Day Challenges, but I need something that focuses strictly on my fitness, so here we are! I realize some people are against working out for 30 days with no rest, but I envision my “rest” days looking more like a 2 mile walk instead of plopping down on the couch.

Why now? Mostly because I oh so conveniently “forgot” about it at the beginning of August and September and a fresh month is always a good place to start. There is also the minor detail that states that I need to be able to squeeze into my bridesmaid dress for one of my best friend’s wedding in November. The situation was a teensy bit snug last time I slipped that bad boy on.

It’s time to get down to business on a few of the items on my list of 23 by 28 and I would love some company! Link up your posts on TwitterInstagram and Facebook with #Fit30Days and let me know down in the comments if you plan to participate! Even if you don’t commit to the full 30 days of fitness, something is always better than nothing.

What is your number one health and fitness goal right now?

What a great idea! I usually workout 4-5 days a week, I should try to bump it up to 7!

Caffeine is definitely my drug (coffee, not soda) so I feel your pain – i’ve done a 30 day detox before and it’s definitely the first few days that are hardest! You can do it 🙂

I really like this goal! It’s so true, rest days don’t have to be stop everything days, you just need to take the intensity down and give your body a break, not stop completely. Right now my main fitness goal is ensuring I practice dance each day – I take classes on Sundays and teach on Mondays, but I have been pretty bad about keeping it up on my own throughout the week. If nothing else, I am aiming to stretch and do light barre exercises when I’m not in a group or teaching.

I’m looking forward to following along while you complete this challenge!

I really need to focus on my fitness this month! I was just telling my boyfriend the other day that I feel like I always have to choose between things to get done each night (morning workouts are not my friends)… so between cooking, walking the dog, working out, blogging, searching for new jobs, being social or organizing/right now packing it just seems I’m always passing on working out. I NEED to make it a priority. NEED! Good luck with no pop! I cannot imagine living without coffee or energy drinks!

  5. I’m all about this! I’m not sure I can, or will ever, commit to no sugar/caffeine, but I did agree to a 30-day yoga challenge on instagram (which is waaay outside of my comfort zone). I need a little kick in the pants, too, and definitely do better at the start of a new month! I can’t wait to see how your month ends up!

YOU GOT THIS. When my gentleman friend and I embarked on our challenge, pop was a HUGE thing for him. He download Lose It!, a free calorie-tracking app, and would put everything – even drinks – in it. Knowing how many calories a dinky can of pop had in comparison to other food and how much he would have to work out to drink it was major motivation.

    Good luck, chica!

  7. You strong girl. I <3 pop. This month, I’m trying to get to the gym as much as possible for at least 30 minutes of cardio. Baby steps. If it stops raining can we go for a power walk next week?!

  9. Best of luck! Sounds like a great plan. I struggle with giving up caffeine – I know it is the healthy way to go – but I crave the boost of caffeine.

I literally started my workout routine yesterday because I too have a bridesmaids dress I need to squeeze into in November. Plus, it’s something that I always say I’m going to do and never do, so my goal this week was to start doing what I say I’m going to do. Love the idea of doing it with others so I’ll def be using the hashtag! 🙂

I’m obsessed with my coffee ritual every morning. There is something about sipping something warm in your hands while reading the news, blogs, etc. I’m addicted to not only the caffein but the ritual too. Is that weird? Makes it so hard to give it up but considering swapping coffee for tea. But just not quite yet. Excited to watch you go on your challenge!!
