Monday Musings

Hi guys, I hope your week is off to a great start! A little positivity can go a long way, especially on a Monday – so I’m mustering all that I’ve got today. DIY sequin straw hatIt felt summer-like on Saturday (hello, 80s) and we took full advantage with a cookout at Pete’s Aunt and Uncle’s, followed by an evening of grilling and games with our closest friends. Yesterday was rainy and while I was bummed we couldn’t make it outside for a long walk, I welcomed the fact that the day seemed to move by more slowly than usual.

Here’s to hoping this little round up will derail Monday’s attempt to ruin those feel-good vibes we’ve all got coming off the weekend!

Do it yourself: I’ve long been a fan of Eugenia Kim‘s cheeky hats, but the price tag? Not so much. When I saw a tutorial on Glitter Guide to DIY, I decided to channel my inner Martha Stewart and give it a go. I adapted the process a bit by using sewing pins to hold the letters in place and glued as I went once I had it all laid out. On one hand, this little project tested my patience and on the other, it was a reminder how therapeutic it can be to create with our hands. Full disclosure: I fully intended for my hat to say “rosé all day” but ended up with “rosé me” which I love because it’s different from the others I’ve seen and will be perfect for Miami Beach! If DIYs aren’t your thing, you can scoop up a decently priced custom sequin ribbon sun hat here.

Face + body: Skincare tips from Cara Delevingne’s esthetician. Um, yes, sign me up. I stumbled upon this article (which is actually from this time last year) and while the usual recommendations are present (get enough sleep, stop stressing so much, etc.), it brought to light a few new things, too. Our skin is the largest organ of detoxification and as a result, it can often be an indicator if things on the inside aren’t operating at their full potential. If you read my post from a few weeks back, I decided to get back to the basics as far as health and wellness and after this write up (and Grace’s post on banishing bloat), I decided it was time to start taking a probiotic. So far, so good. Do you take one? I figure it can’t hurt!

In the kitchen: Admittedly, the only cookbook you will find in our kitchen is Chrissy Teigen’s Cravings (and it’s a recent addition, at that). We don’t do much cooking on account of the fact that our countertop space rivals that of my college dorm room. Nevertheless, I’m excited to whip up the Creamy Parmesan Skillet Eggs and her Mac and Cheese with Cheesy Garlic Bread Crumbs recipe. Actually, make that the entire Noodles and Carbs section. Have mercy. Have you picked it up yet?

For bloggers: My friend Jess and her partner in crime, Blair, launched a new blogging resource, Blogging for Keeps. Jess used to put out a weekly video clip on blogging tips and tricks (which was extremely helpful) and I’m looking forward to digging into the resources they’ve put together so far and will be publishing in the future!

These fringe sandals (c/o Steve Madden) and this top (c/o Shopbop) will be coming to the blog soon in both a round up (that Miami packing list I promised) and in a few outfit posts, but I linked them below if you’re wanting to scoop them up before then!

It’s looking like we’re going to get rain most of the week, so I made sure to schedule my workout classes since I won’t be able to make it outside for any runs. I rarely ever skip a Monday workout, however, I’m making an exception for a tiny, curly haired visitor coming to see me tonight! Have a great day, friends!

This gives me some hope! Do you take any other vitamins or supplements? I know nothing beats getting the nutrients from foods, but I’m a terribly picky eater.

  3. Love this post! I just started a probiotic too – trying to get into a routine of taking it everyday. I keep forgetting! I am headed to read through Blogging for Keeps – I saw it last week but never had a chance to browse. Thanks for the reminder 🙂 Happy Monday!!

Thanks so much, friend! I’m not sure if there is an ideal time to take them each day, but I’ve been taking them with my allergy meds (which I set out on the counter next to my empty water glass I fill each morning). I hope your week is off to a perfect start! Jealous of your work situation over on Snapchat 😉

Thank you, Karly! It took a lot of patience…and maybe more rosé than I care to admit 😉 but I’m happy with the way it turned out! You will have to let me know which recipes you make.

I was thumbing through Chrissy’s cook book at Target and fell on those Parmasean skillet eggs and felt my mouth water. I’m juuust starting to like cooking (I’m learning most of my “gourmet” skills by watching reruns of Worst Cooks in America on Netflix, lol).

  9. Probiotics can definitely be a good thing! I love ’em as kombucha and yogurt. Don’t forget to also eat ‘prebiotic’ fuel (i.e. whole grains, bananas, onions, honey, asparagus)sources for your probiotics! Just a dietitian tip 🙂

Oh don’t you worry, I eat a banana every morning and I’ve been concentrating on getting more whole grains! To be quite honest, I had to google what a prebiotic is…clearly I need all the help I can get. Have you ever done a daily food diary of sorts for your blog? I’d love to read it!
