Fall Intentions

I feel the autumnal shift in a big way. Maybe you feel it, too? Like clockwork, the energy of the new season has me yearning to shift into slow gear and refocus coming off the (somewhat) carefree and crazy summer months.

Journaling has always been a big part of my life, but it wasn’t until recently that I really starting leaning into the whole idea of writing affirmations for myself and setting intentions for my days and weeks – it’s been really empowering! While I still do a lot of reflecting in my writing, I feel more in control of my life’s narrative than I ever have before.

I like the idea of setting broader intentions for each season and then from there, letting those help shape my monthly intentions that will be more focused and actionable.

Fall Intentions

Root into my routine – I am very much someone who thrives when I’m in a routine and I’ve been working really hard to establish more order in my day-to-day the last few months. Without fail every year, the summer months are a blur and I think given the pandemic, the plans I had (going away parties, long weekends with friends from out of town, birthdays, and so on) left me even worse for wear than years past. I’m also the type of person who recharges by being alone so after lots of face time with friends, I’m craving more solo time.

Don’t feed my distractions – I’ve been working through some of my self-limiting actions, some of which are bad habits I’ve yet to break. Simply put, it’s unconscious behaviors that end up being time sucks.

Be mindful in my movement – Focusing on my mind/body connection, relying less on momentum and more on the muscle in my workouts, and staying aware of how my body feels so I can continue to move in the way that I like.

Explore different ways of sharing – Try new things and see what resonates! I tend to stick with what I know and for me, that’s spending most of my time on Instagram stories each day. I wrote a little manifesto of sorts to help fuel the fire: create with the aim to inspire people to find ways to feel good in the space between where they are and where they want to be, while always striving to humanize the spaces I take up online and foster different ways of doing life.

Continue to do the work that no one else can see, but that I can feel – It’s learning who and what is deserving of my time and energy. It’s taking the time to assess how I feel mentally and physically before committing. It’s working through past trauma. It’s putting myself first. And it’s hard work.

Here’s to honoring my mind, body, and soul with more solitude this season.

I love these and especially love the one about not feeding distractions. It can be so easy for me to mindlessly scroll and before I know it, an hour is up. I’ve set time limits on my most-used apps (social media, eek!) and have been trying to be intentional about using that time for better things: reading a good book, writing/blogging, tidying up my apartment, or even just sitting in stillness.

Hi Erin! Thank you so much for reading and taking the time to comment 🙂 I can definitely relate. I can’t believe how much time I got back in my day yesterday and then on into today with IG being down. Definitely the reminder I needed to watch how much i’m consuming and only allow a set amount of time for engaging on there myself! I love how you’ve been spending your time. I’m practicing sitting in stillness, too. It’s such a challenge for me!
