Miami Beach Packing List

Happy Monday, friends! In a few short days, I’ll be ushering in the (unofficial) start of summer in Miami Beach and to say I’m excited would be a vast understatement. This gal is beyond ready for a getaway with equal parts fun in the sun and R&R. miami beach packing list

I’ve been to a handful of cities in Florida, but this will be my first time visiting Miami and everyone I’ve talked to says I’m in for a real treat. We’re staying at The Confidante (formerly The Thompson) and have plans to enjoy a handful of restaurants which were recommended to us – in between beach time, of course. If you know of any can’t-miss spots, let me know down in the comments!

My Miami Beach packing list looks a lot like the round up above, but I wanted to highlight a few things.

Marysia has quickly become my favorite swimwear for a few reasons, one being the luxe fabric. Between the cut of the top (not to mention the scallops), the papaya colored hibiscus print and the fact that this Marysia bikini isn’t like anything else I own, I was sold. A note on the sizing: The suits run small. I typically wear a small in tops and medium in bottoms in other suits and ended up with a medium and large for both my Marysia suits!

I’ll also be bringing along the floppy hat I DIY’d (seen here), a breezy popover, an off-the-shoulder top, my favorite beach bag, a little white dress, comfortable espadrilles, a versatile necklace  from Candy Shop Vintage and boyfriend shorts. The pair I have are almost sold out, so I linked this year’s version. I wore them all summer long last year and they’re still my absolute favorite. If you’re planning to order, I normally wear a 28 but ended up having to size down to a 26 – even then, they still have that relaxed fit I was looking for!

I’ve also been debating on whether or not to invest in a nice piece of carry-on luggage. I love my Lo and Sons bag, but I can get away with bringing something a little bigger and since I always try to avoid checking a bag at all costs, I need all the real estate I can get! I’ve heard great things about the Bric’s brand and it’s quite the temptation knowing it’s on sale.

Quick travel tips: I always like to put a fresh set of sheets on the bed right before heading out so there is one less thing to fuss with once we’re home. I’m also the type of person who likes to unpack everything upon checking into the hotel so I know where everything is (I know, so Type A) and can get to the good stuff (“the good stuff” is presumably a cocktail on the beach this time around). If anything wrinkled in transit, I put it on a hanger and then hang it on the back of the bathroom door while I shower to steam out the wrinkles!

Do you have any plans for Memorial Day Weekend? I’d love to hear what you’ll be up to!

If you’re following along on Snapchat (jessicazimlich), I’ll be sharing bits and pieces of our trip over there and on Instagram.

I’m very excited to see all your snaps and insta photos of your trip! I hope you and Pete have a blast! Love your new suit, meant to tell you that earlier in the snap you’d sent. We are staying around home. No special plans other than to visit SPC Torre’s memorial stone here on Ft Riley on Memorial Day and lay flowers in his memory. He’s buried in Cali near his parents, but they have a nice memorial here for him, so it’s nice we can visit there.

Thanks, Mom! I’ll be posting away 🙂 That sounds like a great way to spend such an important holiday. I love that they have something to commemorate him in both places!

I have the Lo and Sons OMG bag and recently brought it on a trip to Italy. I threw a small crossbody purse that held my essentials in the OMG and then used the OMG as my “purse” and I was fine with that and a carry on! It’s such a great bag , especially because you can fit a pair of shoes in it.

Have a great time in Miami! Can’t wait to hear all about it!

Now we’re talking! That’s a great idea 🙂 Luckily I usually only carry crossbody bags, so mine should easily fit! Thank you so much, Lauren. I’ll be sure to share plenty during our trip and do a recap once we’re back!

A trip to Miami sounds wonderful! You are going to have the best time!
Carry on luggage – I just bought a suitcase from Away Travel and I love it! It is a new start up by two girls who used to work at Warby Parker. All they make is that one suitcase, so it is very streamlined and well made. And added bonus – the suitcase is tech friendly and you plug it in to charge it and then it holds 4+ charges for your iPhone! So if you are considering new luggage, I would suggest checking it out!
    Have an amazing trip!

We had the best time! (got back super late on Wednesday last week…or was it super early on Thursday? haha) Thanks for the luggage tip! That charger would have come in handy after our flight home was delayed for sure…
