Before Photos of my Apartment

Hi! Happy Wednesday. I feel like there’s something in the air because everyone I’ve talked to is having a week. Not bad, necessarily, just long in the sense that surely it should be Friday by now!

I promised you all I would take you through the decorating process now that I’m in my new place and figured sharing some photos of what I’m working with would be a good place to start!

I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about a studio apartment, but as soon as I stepped foot into the unit and saw the windows facing west that allow for an unobstructed view of the sunset every night, i was sold.

The layout really works for me and I think the wall-to-wall windows help open it up even more, making it feel bigger than it is. When I moved in, the south wall was painted in a deep gray as an accent and seeing as that’s not my thing, I had it painted to match the other white walls (again, not the shade of white I’d choose, but there are worse things).

There’s still a lot to be decided and being the visual person that I am, I’m waiting on my new sectional sofa to get here before I order any other big pieces of furniture so I can get an idea of what space i’m leftover with! If you’re planning to move or are investing in new furniture and know what you want/need, I suggest ordering sooner rather than later as delivery times are still delayed (just got an update the week before last on my couch and it’s now on backorder. Still hopeful it will arrive in May though!).

I’ve already said goodbye to a few things (like my old IKEA shelf) and will definitely be parting with my white dining table, West Elm dining chairs, and sadly, the rattan chair I bought last year that doesn’t fit with the look i’m going for, but for now it’s where I work and eat….and do everything else.

I’ve also confirmed what I already knew deep down and that is that I have incredibly expensive taste, which is limiting (lol). My dream cane bed came with serious sticker shock. I’m on the hunt for something similar, so if you’ve seen anything, send it my way!

I like the idea of having bar stools to eat at the counter, but not so much for working from home (and I don’t know that I need that and a dining table?). I thought it might work if I buy some sort of standing workspace station that I can easily pull out in the morning and put away at night, but storage space has been holding me back there.

Right off the front door entrance i’ve got a small closet with a washer and dryer and it’s been so nice to be able to run smaller loads of laundry and not fuss with quarters like I did at my old building!

I also bought this full length mirror on a whim and it turned out to be so much better in person! It’s currently sitting in my entry area until I find it’s forever home. So as you can tell, i’m just living in limbo. 🙃

Let me know what else you’d like to see as far as home and organizing (bathroom/closet/kitchen?) content goes or just moving in general down in the comments and I’ll be sure to get to them in future blog posts or on Instagram!
