I keep a note in my phone outlining my goals and intentions for the year (and come back to it regularly), but I also know there’s a lot of power behind “putting it out there,” so that’s what I’m doing.
I made great strides across so many areas of my life last year, despite how I was feeling mentally and physically most days, and I’m really proud of myself for not completely succumbing to my circumstances.
Some of my goals from last year are like second-nature to me now. I don’t give much thought to getting morning sun or logging my strength workouts to track my progress, while others take a little more effort and work on the backend, like creating less food waste and making sure that I come prepared for my weekly therapy sessions. Probably the most important of them all is not drinking alcohol, which is just…part of who I am now. I think it’s one of the few parts of my identity that I’m really sure of, at least right now.
Below is what I plan to accomplish this year
📌 MIND
- Continue to work on implementing IFS work into my life
- Ignore wellness trends (most of which don’t serve me) and simply tune in to what feels good for my body and mind
- Break the habit of checking my phone first thing in the am (feeling pretty good about this so far)
- Put my phone to bed at least 30 minutes before I tuck myself in for the night (okay so I’ve not been doing a great job at this…and my naturally early bedtime doesn’t help matters)
- Take one mental health day/month
- For the love of god stop procrastinating (but a reframing: why am I procrastinating that thing? I think it’s worth exploring at the root)
📌 PERSONAL + FUN
- Find a way to celebrate a year without alcohol (coming up in April!)
- Explore new ways of socializing that don’t involve drinking
- Try a new restaurant or coffee shop in Chicago every month
- Go golfing with the girls
- Try out a rock climbing gym
- Learn to make latte art
- Take more pictures of myself
- Take more pictures with the people I love
- Make it a point to Facetime with my niece every week
- Get a new tattoo
- Get my drivers license
- Renew my passport
- Donate blood regularly
📌 BODY/MOVEMENT
- Reacquaint myself with different types of movement I used to enjoy like yoga and running
- Be able to do a chin-up using full range of motion
- Implement different ways to progressively overload (don’t hyper-fixate on increasing weight)
- Increase ankle dorsiflexion for more range of motion in my lifts
📌 FINANCIAL HEALTH: INVESTING/SAVING/WORK
- Pitch to an online publication
- One late/no show fee max/quarter at ethos/other workout studios max (ideally, I’d like to not waste any money doing this, but I also want to give myself a little leeway if I wake up and know that my body really isn’t up for it)
- Hit my investing goals: HSA, IRA, 401k
- Move emergency fund over to a HYSA at Marcus ✅
- They offer a 3.30% savings APY and if you use my referral code to sign up, you’ll get a 1.00% APY bonus for a total of 4.30% APY for 3 months if it’s something you’re wanting to do too 🙂
I’d love to know what you’re working towards in 2023!
